On Friday, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series had practice and qualifying. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is having their All-Star Race Saturday night. The drivers who are in the race practiced, as well as those who were not in the race, but have to race their way into the race.
Qualifying for the Sprint All-Star Race is something special. The drivers must make a pit stop during qualifying. And qualifying is the average of the laps and pitting. This is the only time they must make a pit stop during qualifying. For the Challenge, the qualifying is normal qualifying to determine the line up for those trying to get into the Big race.
However, Mother Nature spoiled things on Friday. With only four cars left to go, it started raining and everything got canceled. The Challenge drivers will line up according to how they came out to qualify. That put 6 David Ragan on the pole and 13 Max Papis next to him on the front row! And the fans don’t get to see the pit stop in the qualifying for the All-Star race.
The NC Education Lottery 200, Truck race was completed after the track was dried, well into the morning of Saturday, with 18 Kyle Busch winning. Sorry folks. I fell asleep! Perhaps because Kyle was on the pole. I don’t normally do that. I did wake up to see the fifth, sixth and seventh cautions. But with a Sprint Cup driver leading, it wasn’t much fun to watch. In my opinion.
Mother Nature ruined my racing weekend. But I still have to wonder what is happening all day on Saturday, since festivities don’t start until late in the day. I didn’t get to see qualifying with the pit stop. And only four cars remained to qualify for the Challenge. Why couldn’t they finish the qualifying on Saturday in the morning and during the day? I suppose they have all kinds of festivities going on during the day, but don’t the fans deserve to see the qualifying with the pit stop? I think they do. It only happens once, and surely they can find some time to complete the Challenge qualifying and get in the All-Star qualifying. The track is there. Use it!
The races tonight will be weird, as far as I can see. They won’t be based on speed, but on luck of the draw. I will still watch the races tonight, but I think NASCAR should have done more for the fans and completed the qualifying. The racing should be interesting.
