This is a race that is fun to watch. The drivers make right and left hand turns and go up and down the tricky track. Last year Kasey Kahne, in his #9 Dodge won his first road course race. Richard Petty Motor Sports won their first race in quite some time. This year they will be driving Fords.
The race record for Infineon Raceway is held by Ricky Rudd with an average speed of 81.007 miles per hour, set 6/23/02. The qualifying record was set by Jeff Gordon 6/24/05 with a speed of 94.325 mph and 75.950 seconds. Past winners are Jeff Gordon with 5 wins(!), Tony Stewart with 2 wins, Juan Pablo Montoya, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch and Kasey Kahne.
Ricky Rudd won the first race here in 1989. Also notable, Jeff Burton is making his 500th consecutive NASCAR Cup career start this weekend.
While the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is in California at a road course, the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be at another road course, Road America. This one is almost 5 miles long! This is the first time NASCAR has raced at this track. They had a special practice session on Thursday. Carl Edwards, Paul Menard and Nationwide points leader, Brad Keselowski will be traveling between the two race tracks this weekend.
See you later for more NASCAR racing.
